WBA Tournament Regulations

Saturday 12th November 2022

General Rules

All matches will be played using feather shuttlecocks.

All games (except finals) will be timed to 12 minutes per match, with each round of matches on all five courts starting and finishing at the same time. This is to allow the programme to remain on schedule. The player with the highest score after 12 minutes is deemed the winner. In the event that the score is level at 12 minutes, one further ‘sudden death’ point will be played to determine the result. Finals will be played one game to 21 points or 12 minutes, whichever finishes first. Throughout the competition, players will be required to score their own matches with the final score being agreed upon and then logged on the scorecard provided. This scorecard must then be returned to the match control desk on courtside by the winner of that match directly after the match has finished.

All age groups will play a series of group matches to begin with and the final standings will determine which knock-out draw they will proceed to. Due to the unpredictable nature of tournaments, the tournament referee reserves the right to alter the groups on or before the day of competition in order to accommodate the needs of all players.

Whilst we are delighted to welcome the support and encouragement of parents, other family members and friends at Westgate Badminton Centre, we will not tolerate any behaviour from anyone who is deemed to have influenced or affected the outcome of any game throughout the day. Nor will any criticism of their child’s performances, or that of any other player be accepted. Parents please note, we are all there for the players, not for ourselves. Please note also that the use of camera recording equipment and/or photography are not permitted during the tournament without the prior consent of the tournament referee. An official photographer will be in attendance catching the action.

All participants will receive a certificate of competition with additional prizes awarded to the 1st and 2nd place players of each Cup and Plate competition when and where applicable.

Catering

We are very lucky to be able to boast a comfortable and welcoming lounge and bar area at Westgate and snacks and drinks will be served throughout the day at very reasonable prices. Please note the lounge area is reserved only for those wishing to relax, work or eat/drink items purchased on site. We have a lovely viewing gallery for all guests to spectate. Parents are not permitted on courtside unless in the event of an emergency.

Raffle

We will be running a raffle throughout the day with some amazing prizes including badminton rackets, tubes of shuttlecocks and other badminton accessories. Tickets will be available to purchase at the bar area.
