Welcome to Winchester Badminton Academy
Winchester Badminton Academy is a thriving badminton coaching programme for children aged 5 to 17 years.
We are based on two sites, St. Swithun’s School, Winchester and Winchester College.

Below are the programmes we offer on a weekly basis.
Junior Badminton Coaching Programmes
NEW for Autumn 2026
Our ‘Flight’ programme is designed for children aged 5 to 10 years and completely new to the game. Children are coached by a team of experienced and qualified badminton coaches. Players are introduced to the game through fun games and activities designed to inspire and enthuse from the start.
Training days: Saturdays
Times: 8.30am to 10.00am
Venue: Winchester College
Our ‘Control’ programme is designed specifically for older ‘beginners’, typically secondary school aged. Players are coached in the basics of the game and develop the knowledge and understanding of scoring and officiating their peers. Players from our Flight group may progress into this group.
Training days: Sundays
Times: 9.00am to 10.30am
Venue: St. Swithun’s School
Our ‘Drive’ programme is designed specifically for both older and younger players who have developed their skill level through their time in groups 1 and/or 2. Players develop their knowledge and understanding of tactics and strategy. Players from our Control and Flight groups may progress into this group.

Venue: St. Swithun’s School
Our ‘Smash’ programme is for players who are working on their higher level skills and advanced aspects of the game. Practises and drills are used in training to build upon the essential areas of the game learned in previous group/s. Some players have progressed from our Control and Drive groups.

Times: 10.00am to 11.30am
Venue: Winchester College
Our ‘Elite’ programme caters for players who have achieved a high level of competence on the badminton court, and are well on the journey to becoming county-level players or higher. Many children in this group go on to train and compete for Hampshire. Additional mid-week coaching is available for players.

Adult Beginner and Developing Badminton Programmes
Our Adult coaching programme is a brand new course for adults. Coached by our experienced level 2 badminton coach Richard Peters, our sessions are tailored to the needs of every player. With access to four badminton courts, sessions are designed to cater for all levels from absolute beginners to club players wishing develop their game. There are no expectations about the level of the players in the group and a wholly inclusive style of coaching is used to make everybody feel welcome and valued within the group.
Members can either pay termly upfront for either the full two-hour weekly sessions, or just for the one hour. And for those whose lives are such that they can’t commit to every week, we offer a flexible PAYG option.
So, what’s not to like?
All equipment is provided and absolutely NO experience is necessary.
